Kathy Hyttel

Kathy Hyttel, Senior Director of Finance and Administration

Kathy ThompsonKathy’s love of numbers and Maine’s great outdoors make her a natural fit to oversee NRCM’s finance and administration department. In addition to creating, assembling, and tracking budgets and other finance-related work, Kathy manages day-to-day operations—everything from our computer and phone systems to making sure the walls get a periodic fresh coat of paint and the roof doesn’t leak. (She took the lead on getting our solar panels purchased and installed!) She is also the go-to person for HR information. Kathy holds a B.A. in accounting from the University of Maine, and her experience in the nonprofit accounting field includes more than a decade at the Chewonki Foundation. She lived for a number of years on the island of Islesboro, where she was employed by the town. Originally from Wisconsin, Kathy has been living in Maine since 1982. She now lives in Damariscotta where she enjoys gardening, kayaking, hiking, and spending time with her adult children and their families, including three grandchildren.

Dog or Cat Person? Probably dog, but I’ve had some special cats, too.

Why I Do This Work

“I am proud to call myself an environmentalist. Knowing that this organization is a voice for the environment, gives me hope, for the future for my children and my grandchildren. I believe the work I do here helps support this cause and supports the wonderful staff that is so dedicated to this work.”
