From the interviews:
“It appears to me that they’re developing all the pristine spots around the lake…this proposal can potentially ruin what makes this area so special…No one has really looked at the infrastructure demands from a development north of here--the impact on the Town of Greenville.” - Dan McLaughlin
“We certainly need jobs up here. But, what kind of jobs would such a proposal bring? I’m afraid that the jobs would be minimum wage jobs without benefits, seasonal jobs, not jobs that pay living wages with good benefits that will allow people to support their families.” - Wendy Weiger
“What I’d like to see for this region is that it be protected for public use, public enjoyment for many generations, as well as protection for wildlife habitat.” - Diane Boretos

The Ballad of Moosehead Lake, by David Dodson
Listen to the Ballad of Moosehead Lake
Lyrics
There's a lake in the middle of the state of Maine
shaped like the head of a moose,
and folks from Kittery to Caribou
want to protect it from abuse.
Moosehead Lake is a jewel in the state of Maine
and there's no bigger lake in New England,
unless you count Champlain.
When Plum Creek bought the surrounding land,
at a very attractive price,
it was zoned as forest and Plum Creek said
“Don't worry we'll be nice.”
Now they say “by the way, if the board is willing,
we want to rezone, build condos,
a golf course, a couple of resorts and make a killing.”
(chorus 1)
Plum Creek sounds like milk and honey
But all they want is money, money, money.
Do we want a green forest without a gate
where the lynx and the moose can roam,
or a big resort for out-of-state fat cats
who want a second home?
Moosehead Lake is truly one-of-a-kind
and the last great forest in the East
along its shore, is on the line.
(chorus 1)
Plum Creek sounds like milk and honey
But all they want is money, money, money.
(chorus 2)
So now it's time to stand together
cause once it's gone it's gone forever.
(instrumental)
Some say the fight to save the lake is a battle we can't win,
But the bears and the birds and the bobcats say
now's the time to jump right in.
Taking on the billionaire corporate wilderness destroyers,
The bills are mounting.
And Plum Creek's got about a half a gazillion lawyers,
But hey who's counting?
(chorus 1)
Plum Creek sounds like milk and honey
But all they want is money, money, money.
(chorus 2)
So now’s the time to stand together
cause once it's gone it's gone forever.
So now’s the time to stand together
cause once it's gone it's gone forever.
