Location: Township 6, North of Weld, Franklin County
Description: Tumbledown Mountain has a network of six trails on it and the adjacent Little Jackson Mountain. My favorite hike is up the Parker Ridge trail. It’s gradual at first but then turns challenging as you climb over ledges to reach the top.
Activities: Hiking
Favorite seasons to visit: Mid- to late-summer
Why It’s Special: While you are in the woods for the entire hike, when you reach the summit it takes your breath away. You can see other peaks for miles around, including Mt. Blue. The landscape below seems dotted with ponds and lakes and stitched by rivers and streams. At the summit, you’ll also see the highest pond in the state, Tumbledown Pond.
Tips: It’s about a three-mile hike so pack a lunch and your swimsuit before heading up the trail.
