NRCM Climate & Clean Energy Director Jack Shapiro will be a guest speaker on a panel during the morning session, titled "Finding Common Ground." The all-day event, about Maine's economy and climate, features speakers, presenters, and exhibitors at the Augusta Civic Center. Registration is $95/person.

UMaine Windstorm Challenge

Join us for this event at which middle and high school students from around Maine put their offshore wind models to the test at UMaine's state-of-the-art offshore wind facility. NRCM will have a table so that you can speak with staff about our offshore wind and climate work. NRCM is proud to be a co-sponsor of this event.

Bird Walk at Perham Stream Birding Trail with Allison & Jeff Wells

Join NRCM’s bird experts and authors of the book, Maine’s Favorite Birds, for a leisurely bird walk. We’ll welcome newly arriving warblers like Northern Parula, Black-throated Green, and the dazzling Blackburnian as White-throated Sparrows and other species serenade us along the trail.

Climate Convergence

Friday-Saturday, May 17-18, Norway

The Center for an Ecology Based Economy Convergence brings together climate leaders for workshops, discussions, and presentations on climate change and our collective response. Keynote addresses by Living on Earth's Steve Curwood and polar scientist Dr. Susana Hancock. NRCM's Josh Caldwell will be there Friday to talk with you about NRCM's climate work. 

Paddle the Sandy River

Saturday, May 18, Strong to Farmington

Join NRCM staff for a paddle with Atlantic Salmon Federation's Jeff Reardon to explore why the Sandy is vital for the recovery of Atlantic salmon and other sea-run fish. This 11 mile, 3-4-hour paddle begins in Strong and ends in Fairbanks area of Farmington.

FERC Hearing on Kennebec River

Tuesday, May 21, Waterville

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is conducting a critical dam relicensing process for the Kennebec dams. This is our best chance to shape the future of the Kennebec River and reunite the river. Join us at one of two public hearings in May. The first one is from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Thomas College in Waterville on May 21st.

NRCM Climate & Clean Energy Outreach Coordinator Josh Caldwell will be speaking on a panel about policy action on smart growth principles, and specifically around public transit. This panel will take place during a two-day Build Maine summit featuring leaders from around the state that focus on smart growth, energy efficiency, and urban planning.

Alpine Plant Hike

Wednesday, June 12, Saddleback

Join NRCM staff and Alpine plant expert Glen Mittelhauser from the Maine Natural History Observatory, for this guided hike at Saddleback. Glen quite literally wrote the book on the plants of Baxter State Park (and others) and is a wonderful teacher and guide. Please note that this is a fairly rugged hike (1,620 feet in elevation gain).

Join NRCM staff and Registered Maine Guide Richard Behr for an 8-mile paddle (8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.) on the Kennebec River from Skowhegan to Hinckley. This is suitable for beginner paddlers. Come learn more about the Kennebec River, including its diversity of wildlife and current river restoration opportunities. Registration is $20 per person, limit of 25 paddlers.

Join NRCM staff and Registered Maine Guide Richard Behr for an 8-mile paddle (8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.) on the Kennebec River from Sidney to Augusta to celebreate the 25th anniversary of the Edwards Dam removal. This is suitable for beginner paddlers. Registration is $20 per person, limit of 25 paddlers.
