Watching the breaching of the Veazie Dam on the Penobscot in 2013.
Join us at Patagonia’s Freeport store (100 Main St) from 6:30-8:00 PM to hear from NRCM Senior Director of Advocacy Pete Didisheim and others for the Penobscot River Restoration: History, Dams & Ownership discussion, sponsored by the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) and Patagonia. During this event we will take a look at the Penobscot River Restoration Project, the river’s cultural and ecological history, its significance as Maine’s largest river system, the current state of the river and its impact on other restoration/dam removal projects locally, as well as nationally.
Guest speakers are Steve Tatko and Carolyn Ziegra of the AMC, Pete Didisheim of the Natural Resources Council of Maine, and Laura Rose Day, former Executive Director of the Penobscot River Restoration Trust. They will discuss the restoration of the river, its economic, ecological and cultural changes over time, and concepts of ownership/community when talking about rivers. Other local and national river restoration projects will also be highlighted, along with updates on the ecological revival of the Penobscot River.
This event is family friendly and is wheelchair accessible. All are welcome to come! Please RSVP at this link.
