This week’s photo is from longtime NRCM member Linda Woods of Waterville, Maine.
She writes, “My husband and I did Ragged Mountain near Rockport on May 20. It was COLD (felt like 38 on top) but no bugs or rain. We do this particular trail every year at this time to see Appalachian sandwort (Mononeuria glabra), a (somewhat) rare native plant. This is Appalachian sandwort, which is often confused with mountain sandwort (an alpine flower). Their growth habits are different, and Appalachian sandwort has slightly larger flowers. Some of Ragged Mountain was protected using Land for Maine’s Future funds.”
Thanks, Linda!
