Our team connects with people across the state to understand the unique needs and perspectives of local communities. By working together, rooted in shared purpose of this place we love, we can build the power needed to stand up against those that want to hold us back and identify the practical solutions that will make a real difference for our woods, waters, wildlife, and communities.
Who We Work With
Protecting Maine takes a community. A few of the partners and coalitions we work with:
- Outdoor recreation businesses, represented by Maine Outdoor Brands
- Maine’s towns and cities, represented by the Maine Municipal Association
- Reuse Maine, a volunteer network working together to reduce waste
- The Wabanaki Alliance, representing the citizens of the five Wabanaki nations
- Transportation for Maine, a statewide coalition advocating for healthier, safer choices
- The Environmental Priorities Coalition — 40 environmental, conservation, and public-health organizations
Stronger in Coalition
Real, lasting change takes many partners. NRCM helps build broad coalitions that bring together conservation groups, land trusts, public-health advocates, and Maine people. Working with nearly 100 land trusts, we’ve championed funding for Land for Maine’s Future. As part of the Environmental Priorities Coalition, a 40-organization strong group, we advance Maine’s top environmental priorities each legislative session. And through the Kennebec Coalition, we work alongside the Penobscot Nation, the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians, and others to restore Maine’s rivers.
Working With Maine’s Cities and Towns
Maine’s nearly 500 towns and cities make many of the decisions that shape daily life—how waste is managed, how land is used, and how communities prepare for a changing climate. NRCM works closely with residents and local officials identify the tools, funding, and resources they need to be successful.
