WINSLOW — Fish take note: A dam may be opening soon near you.
City planners on Monday evening may wrap up the remaining details in allowing FPL Energy to proceed with a plan to breach the Fort Halifax Dam, which the company owns.
Six years of debates and research about the potential effects of the breaching appeared to have been nearing a close on Thursday, as members of the Planning Board approved more than half of the items on the application.
But Planning Board member Elery Keene said he didn’t know for sure that Sebago Technics, an engineering firm that evaluated the plan to breach the dam, had done enough research on the long-term potential for erosion.
Specifically, he said FPL Energy should be held responsible for a much longer period of time for property damage or erosion that might occur as a result of the dam breaching, an objection that halted the board’s momentum in approving the application on Thursday.
