The Smog of the Sea chronicles a one-week journey through the remote waters of the Sargasso Sea. Marine scientist Marcus Eriksen invited onboard an unusual crew to help him study the sea: renowned surfers Keith & Dan Malloy, musician Jack Johnson, spearfisher woman Kimi Werner, and bodysurfer Mark Cunningham become citizen scientists on a mission to assess the fate of plastics in the world’s oceans.
After screening The Smog of the Sea, there was a panel discussion featuring: Matt Prindiville: Executive Director of UPSTREAM and featured in The Smog of the Sea film and students activists from the area.
The event was held at Tuesday, April 3 at the Troy Howard Middle School, 173 Lincolnville Ave./Route 52 in Belfast. It was free and open to the public.
The event was sponsored by Belfast Refuse, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle of Troy Howard Middle School and CASS Elementary School, Natural Resources Council of Maine, UPSTREAM, and Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition.
