Puffins on Eastern Egg Rock. A My Maine This Week photo by Sam Crowe.
NRCM took an hour-and-a-half cruise out of New Harbor to Eastern Egg Rock aboard the Hardy Boat for an up-close look at some of Maine’s favorite coastal summer residents, Atlantic Puffins on Friday, June 29.
The birds are here only during the short breeding season, and this was the perfect time to see them, as well as other ocean birds. Dr. Stephen Kress, founder of Project Puffin, narrated our trip, gave an overview of the project, and answered a lot of questions. NRCM’s Allison Wells and her husband, Jeff, lifelong birders and authors of Maine’s Favorite Birds, were also on board to help identify birds and other wildlife.
Ticket proceeds were donated in support NRCM’s work to protect Maine’s air, land, water, and wildlife.
A big thank you to everyone who has came on this year’s wonderful trip – with special thanks to Captain Al and Stacie Crocetti, owners of the Hardy Boat, for their generosity and enthusiasm for this trip!
