The Strand Theatre in Rockland hosted a full day of viewing “Infinitely Yours” by Miwa Matreyek. This multimedia experience explores our vastly changing Earth. Multimedia performing artist Miwa Matreyek uses animation, projections, and her own moving shadow to create magical, surreal, visually rich performances that leave audiences spellbound!
According to the Strand’s website:
INFINITELY YOURS explores global warming, the anthropocene, and the vastly changing earth. This piece attempts to physicalize and emotionalize the non-stop barrage of news streaming in through our screens, of environmental transformation that we can’t seem to hit pause or rewind on. Miwa takes on plastics in the oceans, de-forestation, food crisis, drought, super storms and much more in a cacophony of dream-like, kaleidoscopic imagery.
Recommended for high school age and adults. Running time: 26 minutes
After the performance, NRCM CEO Lisa Pohlmann spoke at the Strand Theatre’s first installment of their Green Room: Artist Chat series, featuring Miwa Matreyek, the creator/performer behind Infinitely Yours. This was hosted live on the Strand’s Facebook and YouTube pages. During this chat, participants heard from Miwa about her creative process and get a behind-the-scenes look at her show. Lisa Pohlmann will spoke about the great efforts NRCM does for the climate here in Maine, and shared how to take action from home. Viewers had the opportunity to ask questions via the comment section on Facebook or YouTube.
