NRCM Forests & Wildlife Director Melanie Sturm and others hosted a webinar to learn about Maine’s ecological reserve system and the case for expanding it.
From the Cutler Coast to the Bigelows, from Mt. Abraham to Nahmakanta, Maine’s ecological reserve system protects some of the most stunning and rare natural features in Maine. The Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands manages 19 ecological reserves that encompass about 96,000 acres, but an arbitrary cap of 100,000 acres is limiting its ability to adequately conserve more vulnerable habitats. NRCM and our partners are working to pass a bill through the Legislature this winter, LD 736, to expand Maine’s ecological reserve system.
Watch the webinar video recording to hear from NRCM and our partners at Maine Audubon and the Maine Natural Areas Program about this important issue and how you can take action.
