Elliotsville Plantation, Inc. has offered to donate to the American people up to 150,000 acres of land east of Baxter State Park for the purpose of creating a national park and national recreation Area. The national park would be available for hiking, camping, fishing, wildlife watching, cross country skiing, and other human powered activities. The national recreation area would be available for all of the same activities but would also allow hunting and snowmobiling. The national park and national recreation area would help revitalize the economy of nearby towns, while permanently conserving a portion of Maine’s iconic forests, safeguarding over 30 miles of rivers and streams, and connecting habitat on a large scale to benefit many native plants and animals. Here are a few photos of this beautiful area.
