Location: Spruce Head, Knox County
Description: This white sand beach is a total gem! It’s rocky yet sandy, accessible yet secluded and great for people of all ages! The tides are dramatic here so don’t be surprised when there’s little beach at high tide. But at low tide there is tons of white sand. My favorite time to swim is as the tide is coming in because the hot sand that has been basking in the sun all day warms the water.
Activities: Swimming, skim boarding, building sand castles, reading, sun bathing, napping, cart-wheeling, crab hunting (and releasing), and tide pool exploring!
Favorite season(s) to visit: Summah!
Why It’s Special: This amazing beach is pretty much where I spent a majority of my childhood. It’s very private and off the beaten path. It’s perfect for kids to run around and make sand castles but also great for adults to relax and snooze in the sun.
Tips: Park your car off the edge of the road just before the beginning of the causeway. Gather all your gear and walk across the causeway. There’ll be a hidden pathway on the left between some rose bushes that will lead you to absolute paradise.
