Winter enthusiasts take notice of changing weather
AUGUSTA, Maine —While some may be celebrating a mild winter, some that rely on the cold and snow have been dealing with a brutal few months here in Maine.
With dozens of events being cancelled, winter enthusiasts and environmentalists are saying that climate change is real.
“Winters like this past winter scare me,” says professional skier Ben Leoni. “And it’s not because of necessarily just their immediate effect on my ability to go skiing during the year, but because they provide a glimpse of what might be the new normal winter here in New England as the result of climate change if we don’t do something.”
Even though a lot of snow fell last year, environmentalists say unpredictability is another symptom of climate change.
