An electric car getting a solar charge today at an event in Portland aimed at increasing the use of the vehicles.
Conservationists and business leaders gathered near a solar-powered electric car charging station in Portland today to highlight the growing use of electric vehicles in Maine.
Dylan Voorhees, of the Natural Resources Council of Maine, says electric vehicles can and should be an essential part of Maine’s energy future.
“Electric cars are an enormous opportunity to address both the environmental and the economic costs of Maine’s dependence on oil and the cost of sending our dollars out of state every time we fill up a tank of gasoline,” Voorhees said.
Today, eight states on the east and west coasts announced that they have formally committed to working together to put 3.3 million zero-emission vehicles on the nation’s roads by 2025, according to The Associated Press. Maine is not part of the pact.
