Vera Francis is this year’s winner of the Natural Resources Council of Maine’s People’s Choice Award, for her work protecting Passamaquoddy Bay from a liquefied natural gas (LNG) project proposed for her tribal lands. The award was presented by NRCM Board President Bill Houston at our annual meeting, entitled, “Natural Leaders,” at USM in Portland, Maine. The People’s Choice Award is determined through a public nomination and voting process, to a person or group who has made a difference protecting Maine’s environment. This video includes a special presentation by tribal elder Hilda Lewis and includes photos of family and friends who made the trip from the region in order to celebrate this award with Vera. Congratulations, Vera, and thank you for your good work!
