NRCM was at the Gulf Voices press conference on July 14th to hear first hand experiences from four Gulf of Mexico residents. The speakers, ranging from a charter boat captain to a social worker, offered unique perspectives on how the spill has impacted their lives and stressed the need for cooperation in moving toward a clean energy future.
The Gulf of Mexico speakers were joined by Maine residents, including a lobsterman, the Casco Bay Keeper, and an economist, who made it clear that we’re not isolated from such issues in Maine. An oil spill could occur (and has occurred before) in Portland. By focusing on supporting clean energy and by ensuring our legislators do the same, we can make sure to avoid oil spills in the future—both in Maine and around the country.
