With the signature of his pen, Governor Baldacci today signed into law one of the most significant pieces of Maine energy policy ever.
NRCM staff and members played a big role in developing and passing An Act Regarding Maine’s Energy Future, which also was a huge priority for Maine’s environmental community, energy efficiency businesses, and green jobs activists statewide. “What a thrill to see the hard work of legislators and our broad coalition pay off,” said NRCM Energy Project Director Dylan Voorhees.
The bill sets ambitious goals to weatherize 100% of Maine residences and half of Maine businesses by 2030. It also consolidates state energy efficiency programs, provides major funding for energy efficient affordable housing, and invests in work force training to create clean energy jobs in Maine.
“This bill is a remarkable achievement that will put Maine on track toward a cleaner energy future,” said Voorhees. “The Legislature will need to provide additional funding in the future to keep this important work moving forward, but for now—this is a big win.”
