Our Annual Citizen Action Day drew members from around the state for a training by NRCM staff and an opportunity to meet with their elected officials. Participants spoke with dozens of lawmakers about bills to reduce sulfur pollution, ensure healthy rivers and streams, and protect Maine’s marine fisheries. They also delivered letters to the governor, watched the House and Senate in action, joined a rally organized by the Alliance for a Clean and Healthy Maine, and signed letters to Maine Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins about the need to reform the federal Toxics Substances Control Act.
“This is always one of the highlights of our year, as citizen activists take to the State House to lobby their legislators about bills to protect Maine’s environment,” said NRCM Advocacy Director Pete Didisheim. “At one point, conversations between our members and lawmakers were happening everywhere I looked.”
