Recently, the Spotlight highlighted South Portland business owner Suresh Gali’s efforts to have a section of one of his properties, a Howard Johnson hotel, rezoned to allow for the construction of a 900-panel solar array.
The South Portland City Council approved the zoning change on August 24th! This vote by the Council follows an earlier Planning Board vote, also unanimous, and gives Gali the green light to begin work on his latest clean energy project which he estimates will save his business $53,000 annually. Gali’s latest clean energy investment follows two others, a Quality Inn and Suites on Main Street and the Days Inn on Maine Mall Road, the roof of which holds a 400-panel array.
