A new report has been released showing many of the ways that chemical companies have managed to derail federal efforts to protect people from toxic chemicals. Human health? Not their problem. They bad-mouth early drafts of health assessments and slam the need for new ones. They send their industry “experts” out on the stump right about the time that a final assessment is due. Our federal Toxic Substances Control Act is broken and ineffective – but it’s up for review and we now have the chance to change it by moving on the Safer Chemicals Act. The chemical industry can’t be allowed to employ endless delays while profiting from the sale of dangerous chemicals.
Urge Senators Snowe and Collins to co-sponsor the Safe Chemicals Act of 2011.
