Since 1959, the Natural Resources Council of Maine has been the leading nonprofit organization working to protect Maine’s air, waters, forests, and wildlife and the natural character of this beautiful place. NRCM is homegrown—founded by Maine citizens—and proudly represents more than 16,000 members and supporters, Maine’s 1.3 million residents, and the millions of people who visit Maine each year for its special places, unique natural resources, and wide range of recreational opportunities.
NRCM is one of the largest state-based environmental organizations in the country and is well-respected among our peers. Our staff of twenty-five includes six full-time policy experts who maintain close watch over administrative and legislative actions, helping to advance good policies, and stopping attempts to undermine safeguards. Our communications and outreach staff are top notch, informing our members, organizing events, and keeping our issues in the news. NRCM’s members are a strong collective voice in Maine, dedicated and ready to take action.
We have been at the center of the most important victories in Maine over the last half century. NRCM has faced down polluting corporations; stopped projects that would have damaged our forests and waters; ensured sensible terms for Maine’s forestry, mining, growth management, and other practices; led efforts to restore critical habitats; and passed first-in-the nation laws to help Maine people live more sustainably.
NRCM is effective and well-respected. If you are an NRCM member, thank you so much—caring people like you are the reason we succeed. If you are not yet a member, please make a difference for the Maine you love by joining us today.
