Sustainable Maine Program Director
Vanessa provides leadership for NRCM’s sustainable materials and waste strategies. She engages with communities, businesses, Maine people, and elected officials to promote policies that reduce human impacts on Maine’s woods, waters, and wildlife. Prior to coming to NRCM, she worked directly with municipalities, schools, and local organizations to provide education and support for their waste reduction and diversion policies. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine at Farmington and a master’s degree in sustainability science from Unity College. Vanessa is on the Board of Directors for the Maine Resource Recovery Association and sits on its Government Affairs and Education Committees. She also served on the Materials Management Task Force for the Maine Climate Council. She is a member of the Reuse Maine coalition and currently sits on her local Solid Waste & Recycling Advisory Committee. Vanessa lives Kennebec County and enjoys spending time along the Kennebec River with her husband, young daughter, and their energetic canine companion.

“Maine has an amazing and unique landscape that offers us so much. There are very few places in the world that showcase the beauty of the ocean shores, the rugged mountains, the lush forests, and the peaceful lakes and streams in the same way. For those of us who get to enjoy it, there’s a sense of pride in its beauty, but we all share a heavy responsibility to care for it. I am so honored to be called to serve Maine’s environment and use my voice to preserve this magical place so that others can feel the same sense of wonder for generations to come.”
