Policy Advocate, Woods, Waters, & Wildlife
Frances plays a critical role in helping lead NRCM’s efforts to conserve Maine’s woods, waters, and wildlife. She advocates before the Legislature and state agencies, builds support among the public on policy issues, and collaborates with coalition partners and the Wabanaki Nations. She develops and utilizes technical expertise related to land use planning, forestry, land and water conservation, and fisheries and wildlife management to promote outcomes that benefit fish, wildlife, and people. She received her bachelor’s degree in English and photography from Bowdoin College and Cleveland State University and a master’s in forestry from the University of Maine. Before joining NRCM, she conducted primarily field-based work, with deep dives into some incredible landscapes in Maine and eastern Washington. She is an avid runner and swimmer and lives in Appleton with her husband and cat named Data.

Why I Love This Work
“I believe in protecting the things I love and value, and certainly my love for exploring (and that of everyone!) is an obvious reason to advocate for the health and integrity of Maine’s woods and waters. Forests are so much more than what we seek and find from them, though, and I also believe in conservation for the sake of the ecosystem itself. The longevity of these landscapes is worth defending, human access or not.”
