William “Tony” Owens

William (“Tony”) Owens moved to Maine in 1976 to complete his residency at Maine Medical Center. He retired in 2026 after a distinguished career as an emergency physician at Maine Medical Center and as an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. Tony’s lifelong commitment to conservation began with volunteer work at Hurricane Island in support of the Outward-Bound program and continued through leadership roles with The Nature Conservancy and the Natural Resources Council of Maine (NRCM). During his 15 years on the NRCM Board, he served as Board President, co-chaired the search committee that selected Brownie Carson’s successor, and helped lead a successful capital campaign. Tony is still an active advocate for conservation and is a member and supporter of numerous Maine environmental organizations. He enjoys spending time outdoors and remains committed to protecting Maine’s natural resources for future generations.
