Bethany L. Woodworth

Bethany is Professor Emeritus of Environmental Studies at the University of New England, where she founded the Climate Change Studies program and taught courses in conservation, climate change, environmental pollution, and ornithology. Her conservation biology research has taken her around the world, including for aerial wildlife surveys in Tanzania with the Frankfurt Zoological Society and endangered forest bird conservation work in the Caribbean and Hawaii with the United States Geological Survey. Since moving to Maine in 2002, she has remained active in conservation leadership and policy and is actively committed to empowering youth to become involved in local and state environmental issues. Bethany serves on the Board of Directors for Northeastern Minnesotans for Wilderness, supporting the Save the Boundary Waters campaign, where she chairs the Conservation Policy Committee. She has also served with the Society for Conservation Biology, the South Portland Land Trust, and USGS Hawaii Forest Birds recovery efforts. She enjoys canoeing, hiking, camping, and stargazing across Maine with her family and friends. Bethany lives in South Portland.
