Al Manville

Al is a widely published author who has dedicated his career to wildlife conservation, public lands, and environmental advocacy through leadership roles in both government and nonprofit organizations. During 23 years of federal service, he worked as a National Park Service Ranger Naturalist, USDA Botanical Research Assistant, and senior wildlife biologist with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. He spent nearly two decades in roles with Defenders of Wildlife and the Adirondack Mountain Club. Al teaches part-time at Johns Hopkins University, including through programs in Acadia National Park. A Certified Wildlife Biologist, Al has testified before Congress and other entities more than 40 times. He holds a B.S. in zoology from Allegheny College; an M.S. in natural resources and wildlife management from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point; and a Ph.D. in wildlife ecology and management from Michigan State University. He remains an active researcher, author, photographer, kayaker, and pilot. He and his wife have long maintained a camp in the Moosehead region.
