NRCM is working to promote green chemistry and sustainable production to prevent pollution and promote design solutions that benefit Maine’s environment and our economy. We partner with businesses to develop clean, environmentally sound technologies and good jobs in new and existing manufacturing facilities.
Green chemistry is the design of chemical products and processes that reduce or eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances. Green chemistry is a highly effective approach to pollution prevention because it applies innovative scientific solutions to real-world environmental problems.
We also work with manufacturers to implement Extended Producer Responsibility policies. EPR suggests that producers are responsible for the environmental impacts of their products. In order to reduce waste and toxic pollution, manufacturers should design products to be low in toxic components, easily recyclable and easy to remanufacture into new products.
NRCM works to promote these approaches to pollution prevention through the environmentally conscious design of products and processes.
