A Delicate Palette.
Paint the walls and ceilings in your home a light color - preferably white. More outside light will reflect around the room, reducing the need for electric lights at dawn and dusk.

Ask for Full Disclosure.
Manufacturers of pesticides, cleaning agents, and other non-food items are required to list only the active ingredients of their products - but often the "inert" ingredients are equally or more dangerous! Shop around for products made by companies like Seventh Generation that list all the ingredients in their products, and call companies that don't to tell them why you are boycotting them.

Keep your children away from the television by suggesting activities that raise their ecological awareness - planting a wildlife garden, building a small birdhouse, or making art projects from discarded items.

Did You Know?
If you like to warm up your car in winter but you don't like the idea of burning all that fuel, consider buying a car that runs on diesel. Unlike gas engines, diesel engines use hardly any fuel while idling - and you can run them on renewable biodiesel, too.

Cook Once a Month.
You can save time and energy (both yours and the planet's) by making large batches of soups and casseroles and freezing or canning them later. Later, when you don't have the energy to cook, you have cheap homemade convenience food!
